The South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (saasa) Makes South Africa Proud!!
11th November 2014
From humble beginnings, Monkeyland was followed by Birds of Eden, and recently Jukani joining SAASA’s ranks, and as they continued to swim against the stream, refusing to be drawn into any exploiting practices, by refusing to sell human interaction with the animals in the sanctuaries. Selling interactions is very lucrative, but we have always stayed far away from it, we believed it to unethical and irresponsible. At our sanctuaries you look listen and leave with a happy heart.
At the Award Ceremony, Justin Francis, Managing Director of responsibletavel.com pinpointed what makes the Responsible Tourism Award winners the leaders in responsible tourism: “Our winners have a vision that extends beyond the commercial – linking business success with the wellbeing of local communities and the longevity of their environments. They want to make profits with principles, communicate balance sheets alongside beliefs, and won’t undermine passion in the pursuit of professionalism. They are resilient, determined, humanising advocates for their destinations. They are the future of tourism.”
To put the magnitude of achievment into prospective, Plettenberg Bay is just one of only 71,250 cities and towns in the world and in 2014 all these awards have been bestowed on Plettenberg Bay establishments.
